From Zero to Hero! Why Teaching Toddlers is Important

Education for children under three years old is a growing market and for good reason! Join us for a panel discussion about education for children ages 0-3 years old: what it is, why it's important and how to ensure high-quality care in the learning center setting. Different perspectives will be provided by our HEI Schools pedagogues as parents and teachers, and we will host Jenni Salminen from the University of Jyväsklyä to give her insights as a researcher in this field.

Greetings from the panelists

My name is Tuuli Schalin and I work as a pedagogical content manager here at HEI Schools. Prior to that, I worked as a kindergarten teacher. I finalized my master's last year doing my thesis about 1-3 year-old children’s forest pedagogy. I’m always excited to get creative with pedagogical materials and enjoy interacting with the very smallest ones!

Hei! My name is Mervi Turpeinen and I’m working as a pedagogical manager at HEI Schools. Previously I worked as an ECE teacher in Finland and also as a mentor teacher in China and South Korea. Now I’m working with our teacher training program and managing our HEI Schools Teacher Diploma community. I’m interested in different cultures and languages and I’m always excited to see how teachers implement HEI Inspiration material in their schools! I just got back from my maternity leave, and I have two little children. The older one is 2 years old and the younger is 11 months old.

Hi! My name is Jenni Salminen and I currently work as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Jyväskylä. My current research concerns teacher-child interaction as a context for child development in early childhood education and care (ECEC) settings, including the age group 0–3. Above all, I’m interested in understanding how the high quality of teacher-child interactions and pedagogy in ECEC together with the home environment can support child development and learning and make every day meaningful for the youngest.
